• Make sure to personalize your letter in some way. Comment letters are given greater consideration when they are not just a form letter. 

SAMPLE LETTER

I am strongly opposed to the proposed changes to the Community Reinvestment Act, which would result in significantly fewer loans, investments, and services to low- and moderate-income communities. This proposal would make redlining legal again, permitting banks to avoid investment in low-income and minority neighborhoods.

(Insert a paragraph or so about your organization and the community you serve. If possible, include positive experience you have had with CRA-related activity in the past.)

On behalf of the low- and moderate-income people and places that my organization serves, I ask that you please discard this proposal and start again.

How to Maximize the Impact of Your Letter:

1. After you submit your letter, send a copy to the FDIC via email: [email protected]. Include the FDIC’s identification number in the email’s subject: RIN 3064-AF22.
2. Send a copy to your Senators and Members of the House of Representatives. Find your Senators at https://www.senate.gov/senators/index.htm. Find your representatives in the House at https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative
