SIGN ON to the Section 4 Letter Increase Federal Funding for CDC Capacity

NACEDA endorses this year’s request to Congressional appropriators to increase Section 4 program funding to $50 million, right-sizing the program to meet the growing needs of the communities and families that rely on community development corporations (CDCs) to provide critical services and support. Sign the letter by March 6.

NACEDA Announces a New Environmental Justice Funding Special Bulletin

The Environmental Protection Agency’s new Environmental Justice Grant Programs will turn out $3 billion in grants for community-based organizations by 2026, with several programs releasing their Notice of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) in the coming months. We encourage community developers to apply. Subscribe to NACEDA’s e-communications to receive our special bulletin alerts when these funding and other opportunities become available.

The 2022 Inflation Reduction Act provided $3 billion for Environmental & Climate Justice Programs, administered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). To date, the EPA has announced a total of $650 million in grant funding for community-based nonprofits. This recent video from EPA will give you a preview of the new resources becoming available in 2023.

RI Member Awarded Grant to Address Health Inequities Tied to Housing  

The Housing Network of Rhode Island (HNRI) received $405,000 through the BlueAngel Community Health Grant Program and continues to be an organizational partner with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island in 2023. Responses to the annual RI Life Index revealed that access to safe, stable, affordable housing is a top concern for Rhode Island residents in nearly every community. HNRI will use the fund to continue building the capacity of Homes RI, a multi-sector collaborative effort to increase the statewide supply of safe, healthy, and affordable homes. Launched in 2017, Homes RI provides a public platform to showcase the importance and urgency of making investments to increase access to quality, affordable homes in Rhode Island.

Featured Funding Opportunities: Two CED Federal Grants Now Open! 


The Community Economic Development (CED) program provides community development corporations (CDCs) with grants of up to $800,000 to revitalize the local economy, expand businesses, and create jobs for individuals with low incomes in communities experiencing high unemployment and persistent poverty. 

Two 2023 CED funding opportunities are currently available. View the Notice of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs), application resources, and weekly answers to common FAQs. CED awards may be used for a wide range of activities including commercial developments, equity investments, and loans. Energy Communities Grants are specifically targeted to communities that have faced economic declines due to the loss of fossil fuel industries.

We encourage interested CDCs to register for the March 1 webinar from the California Community Economic Development Association (CCEDA) and the March 9 webinar from the National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders (NALCAB) to learn how to prepare compelling proposals for these CED funding opportunities.
